Mom was bound for HKG today but (all thanks to) the bad weather, she decided to stay at home. As the end of Ramadan is fast approaching, all the lucky residents of the PHL were given a long weekend. That having said, she's (mom's) not just gonna stay at home and stuck her butt on her favorite chair with a reading material on a rainy day. That's when they (my parents) agreed to visit 1 of the nearby zoos in the metro -- Ark Avilon Zoo.
The zoo is situated in a peaceful place somewhere in the heart of the Pasig City. Clean, peaceful, not smelly and child-friendly. Outside, you'll be welcomed by it's Noah's Ark (obviously, that's why it's called Ark Avilon) style of infrastructure. The moment you enter, you would be immediately greeted by a huge iguana (okay! It's real and it's in a cage) plus some other creatures. There's also a toy shop and it has lots of adorable items for sale which I really wanna take away home but kudos to my budget, I didn't.
I know that from the name itself, you think that the place is really, really huge but no, it's not. It's quite small but the kingdom animalia in that zoo is really fantastic. I was actually dumbfounded when I saw the wide array of birds and take note, they are not in their cages! They're out but they were tied to that stick thing (sorry, I don't know what it's called). They range from smallest to biggest, cutest to super cutest (LOL!). Then there's this huge garden pond that houses alligators, birds (herons?) and huge fishes. In a glass cage, a cute little monkey with yellow gloves (??) is non-stop moving. He just kept doing acrobatic feats, too bad, my camera was no match for the light glare and his undisputed skill. Same thing went for the squirrel, but this time it wasn't the glare, it's the lighting, super awful. I could've done something about it but the squirrel is faster than the monkey and it doesn't stay in one place.
On the second floor, there's a feeding station where you can freely feed goats, rabbits and guinea pigs. There's also a canteen and a rock painting booth. There you can oversee the garden pond.
Just before we leave, there's an orangutan in white shirt accompanied by 1 of the zoo keepers. You can sit beside him and he will gladly put his arms around you. Free photo-taking, k?
